VoIP for the administrator

This course will be suitable for those who are in some way connected to the management and/or roll-out of Voice over IP (VoIP) within their organisations. Although the course is primarily directed to Avaya Communication Managers, a lot of the material discussed is applicable to VoIP in general. We recommend following the VoIP for the network administrator course if you are already familiar with networks and TCP/IP.

Course content

You will learn how to install and manage VoIP devices and to work in partnership with network management in relation to installation and/or troubleshooting. You will learn about the basic terms and techniques that will allow you to manage your VoIP environment.

The following subjects will be discussed:

• VoIP Basics and terminology
• Differences in the operation of VoIP in comparison to traditional telephony
• The configuration of the Communication Manager System in relation to VoIP
• Explanation of the used protocols, codes and techniques
• The OSI model (in combination with Avaya VoIP)
• Quality of Service
• Testing and problem analysis
• How to create, duplicate, delete and move VoIP devices
• Optional: specific facilities for your organisation

Intake requirements

• Knowledge regarding Avaya Communication Manager and, by preference, the Avaya Site Administration course should have been followed.
• Recommended: some network knowledge.

1. The group size will amount to no more than 6 students.
